With summer rolling into its last month, people start to go into a tizzy of realizing back to school campaigns are popping up all over, summer work hours are almost done-zo, and the impending doom of winter is right around the corner (not really but that’s how it feels). The end of summer also cues the time when people start reflecting on what they spent their time doing, remembering all the way back to when it felt like they had all the time in the world to soak up the sun. Like any fellow foodie, I tend to count my summers in terms of food. Here are some of the foods we’ve enjoyed throughout the months, tasting that sweet taste of summer.
June: The Month of Ice Cream

June always feels like a million centuries ago. Remember way back then, when schools were just starting to let out and feeling the sweet relief that summer was finally, finally here? Ice cream is what I associated with the month of June. Not only is it home to National Chocolate Ice Cream Day (June 7th btw, mark your calendars for next year), but with June being the first official month of summer, people flock to ice cream shops. Ice cream is a classic marker of warm weather and the sweet cold treat is enjoyed by people of all ages enjoy in a million different ways all around the world.
July: The Month of BBQs

Americans love their BBQs. The great weather is the perfect excuse to get outside to the barbecue and invite the whole family over. With the 4th of July kicking off the month, I think of July as the month of BBQs. To me, the correct way to celebrate summer is through a BBQ. Summer is about seeing friends and family, being outside and enjoying the ice weather, and a BBQ can bring that all together with tasty food included.
August: The Month of Watermelon

Summer is sweet, just like the fruit that goes with it. Watermelon is a classic summer fruit, as peak season is from May-September, making August the perfect time to indulge. Though watermelon is sweet, it is relatively healthy compared to all the other warm weather treats you’re probably eating, so it can balance your diet out and eat it up guilt-free.
And in the blink of an eye, our summer is over. But we have so many sweet, and savory, memories of all the foods we shared throughout the days.
